Brenda started learning the piano aged five and the violin at eleven. As a child in rural Dorset she took part in English country dancing in the local village but never became involved with playing the music.

Brenda studied classical music and then, after teacher training, began working as a violin teacher in Hampshire schools. It was not until 1996 that she discovered the Scottish fiddle scene. Ian Muir, the music teacher at a school in Basingstoke where Brenda taught, needed a fiddler for a gig - so he asked Brenda! That gig was her debut with the Craigellachie Band and, although it was a terrifying experience compared with the relative safety in numbers of an orchestral violin section, Brenda was hooked and has played regularly with the band ever since.

Besides the teaching and Craigellachie gigs Brenda manages to do some orchestral playing and Scottish Country Dancing as well as looking after her family - husband Simon and sons Daniel and Ben!
